Stop and Look Up - Assignment #5

  1. Hi Courtney, love these images! These kinds of shots are very different to me from the typical 'look up at the skyscrapers' shots, from the colors, to the definition, to the awesome reflections in each building. I love your framing, how you choose to isolate some buildings, and mirror others; it's a nice contrast. I wish that in the first image you would have incorporated the two surrounding buildings a little more so they're exactly symmetrical, or not symmetrical at all— one or the other. I also wish you would have incorporated your self portrait with the theme of your buildings somehow, I mean, I love that dog, but it would fit with the series a little more. Great images overall though!

  2. hey courtney, so i love all of these! i love how you chose to do this, we all walk around the city and i feel like i really never look up, this is a great series and all the images are so interesting. The sky also looks amazing and the composition of each photo is very interesting, i love all of them but i think my favorite is the one right above the self portrait with the reflection in the building, its such a dynamic image and theres so much to look at, its so interesting. All the others are also interesting but i love them all, great job and such a cool idea!

  3. Hi Courtney,

I love seeing people having fun and getting out of their neighborhoods for these shots, really awesome exploration. Right away I can say you really captured the awe and immensity of these man made structures. I think the fact that you chase to crop them very close to the top of the buildings as apposed to having a little more room above them actually ENHANCED your message and made the buildings appear more massive and that they WERE the sky. Your hues of blues are really incredible bouncing off the glass. the geometry and angles are also really nice with the harsh and geometric color shifts within the buildings. I think the last image may be the most interesting due to the bit of cloud you captured in the reflection of the comcast building. It really brought to mind this idea of man made, and conceptually, humanities want to dominate nature. It is as though the cloud in the comcast is man made, the windows of the building making the cloud appear pixelated which really was a neat contrast. Awesome job overall.

  4. Hey Courtney! Love all of your photos! You chose a perfect time of day to shoot the buildings and I love how the blue sky and light reflect off of the glass. I also really like the vantage point of looking up at the skyscrapers towering over you. The images really capture the grandeur and scale of the city. The third to last picture is also really interesting and how the lines on the windows create so many sharp geometric shapes. Really great concept and good work!

  5. Hello Courtney,
You did a great job with your photos. I love the city and how it looks. I like how you showed the buildings from ground level looking up. It makes the buildings look even larger. I love how in the last photo you capture the image of the building across the street in mirror facade. I don't know if you did it by accident or on purpose, but either way it was a great shot. I also like you self portrait. I love how the dog seems to be smirking at me, but at the same time you can see the love he/she has for you. And as always you seem to catch the beauty in your eyes. Good job!

  6. Hi Courtney,
You really seem ed to go out of your way to change your approach to the assignment which shows growth so A+. These pictures are great. They in some ways make me anxious because of the height. I also think if you maybe had given your camera to Peter Parker. Lol. I love how the clouds look against the reflection of the building. I am really curious as to how you achieved these (any tips feel free to drop em!) These buildings look menacing and fenomonal. They seem almost alien. I think you did us justice as well by using a very down to earth self portrait. Great job.

  7. Awesome shots! You definitely chose the right time of day to shoot, and each photo displays a touch of secular light and cloudiness that creates a great mood. All the shots are very sharp and in focus and display an array of colors which makes for an interesting and captivating image. I agree with the others, the angles at which you shot them at gives them this astounding height that makes you really “stop and look.” Overall, great work!
