Clarke Godfrey, Assignment 4 Natural Lighting

  1. Hi Clarke,

I like how you took advantage of the moment for this assignment. Not just for the natural lighting, but also for the great background scenery of the river. You also captured some perfect and different reactions to the experience of (what I think is) water rafting.
I would have preferred to see a various set of photos instead of ones from the same scene, but given how nicely these pictures just seem to narrate having fun on the river, I can get over it. The second and fourth photos need to be put in focus, also. Then again that might be due to the conditions (water on the lens maybe?).
I think you completed this weeks assignment nicely. Utilizing the natural light of that trip was a great idea to get some beautiful and fun photos. I look forward to seeing what you will show everyone for our last assignment.

  2. I enjoyed your first photo the most. I feel like you got your subject at the right angle in exactly the right light. The light outlines her face and head while a soft shadow fills in the rest. The only thing I would have done different is crop out the trees to her right so she falls on the line of thirds. That way the subject is the main focus and the viewer is not distracted by the background. The second and fourth pictures are foggy, which makes it hard to look at. I feels like it pulled away from the lighting because the color seems off. The third photo is also interest because the subject who seems to be the main focus is in a shadow while the rest of the photo is brightly lit. Great job having fun with this assignment and utilizing the natural sunlight!

  3. Hi Clarke! I really enjoyed the subject matter of your photos and the fun theme! I like the soft natural light throughout the images and the various facial expressions and reactions of your friends. I agree with the comments above that I would have loved to see them a little bit more in focus, especially your self portrait! Other than that I think you completed the assignment well and I look forward to seeing more of your work!

  4. Hi Clarke. Your photos have a great nostalgic quality to them. I think the hazy pictures are more clouded then hazy. These seem really candid.
I think that this assignment was really great to use a trip for. I hate to say I kind of wish i could see more photos of nature and less of the people. Just because the pictures look really from a memory almost. Just one of pure nature would have been really cool. Just a thought.
I think my favorite photo is the one of the girl in the boat, and with the other boats visible up river. I think that one is great because of its "scale". That photo in particular says so much about humanity and how humans interact in a touching way.
