  1. Hey Alex, I don't know where you went, but I would definitely like to go. Your bottom two photos are definitely the best and my favorites, but I'll start from the top. I couldn't figure out what I was looking at, but the colors were really interesting, which made a good photo. Once I saw the screenshots I could see that it spelled out LOVE and I still liked it. I think it was a good use of shallow depth and because the letters were out of focus it made, it very abstract. The lizard photograph is really good use of shallow depth too. I know it must have been hard to get because those things are fast, I really liked the framing of this photo as well, there was something appealing to the eye about how structures the bamboo is combined juxtaposed to the clear focus lizard. The third photo is my favorite and remind me of something that would be seen in a travel magazine. I like that you took this photo from the level of the bridge, it gives it great depth beyond what it probably is. The bridge seems to go on forever out into the ocean. The lighting of the overcast sky darkens the tone of this photo for me in a great way as well. Well done, I believe you did a nice job completing the assignment. Self Portrait?

  2. I agree, where are you i would love to be there! I am in love with the last image it makes me want to be there, i like how you didnt just do a straight shot of the dock but you shot it on an angle and captured the background. its a very interesting image and i think you did a great job. The first image is also very cool, it really makes you think i like how it leaves it up to the viewer to guess the word, im guessing love also but i like how you didnt show it all. it made the image very interesting. The lizard is really cool also, i know they are quick so they were probably hard to get close to but it would had been really cool to get some detail but considering how quick they are it looks great. Good job, and if your on vacation enjoy!!!

  3. Hi Alex! These are so pretty. I have to agree with the previous comments, your pictures make me want to go wherever they were taken! The first image is really neat in that you took something perhaps not as appealing in real life and turned it in to a really cool abstract picture by the way you focused in on the subject matter and then how you cropped it. The lizard photo is awesome, you were able to capture it in the perfect moment and got a great, clear shot. I like how balanced it is with all the colors and the way the lizard is the main focus. The final image has to be my favorite. It is a great perspective to shoot a bridge from because we get to see how long the bridge is and it draw's the viewers eye back very far. It was a great level to shoot the bridge from. And again the colors all come together in this photo to create even more unity and the angle it is shot from creates a balanced shot; the photo is not too top heavy or too bottom heavy. Nice work!!

  4. The photo of the boardwalk has such great depth. The way you took the photo it looks like the walk goes on forever You did a great job with that pic. You also did a great job with the picture of the lizard. It shows you the size of the subject(lizard), against the green bamboo. Your the second person who doesn't have a self portrait. I would like to see what you would have come up with. Each one of you have given me ideas with your selection of photos. I do like in the top photo that you brought the one object into focus, but you still cant tell what it is. Its very creative, and i stared for minutes trying to figure out what it is.

  5. These photos great and you definitely fulfill the technical goals of the assignment with these shots. I really like the range in subject content also! The two shallow DOF and the large DOF are clear and great!
In regards to craftsmanship, I think you took a lot of time taking and choosing the perfect images for this assignment. The first image is so ambiguous in what it is and I honestly have no idea, but I really like the colors in it, they are really musty but in such a great way. In the second image, the lizard is so cool and I love the composition of it, and the lizard blends in so well with the picture. The last image is great in the sense of depth, the waters is lovely and I like the colors a lot.
Overall great job, you made a strong visual statement about where you live!

  6. Hi Alex,

The set of photos you have taken complete this weeks assignment perfectly. The picture of the dock is a wonderful example of large dof. The background, foreground, and middle ground are in nice focus. I like how it just seems to go on forever and straight across to the other shore. The second of photo of the lizard is a great example of shallow dof as well. With the background taken out of focus the lizard is emphasized perfectly. The first photo is also a good example for shallow dof , the focus only on one of the colorful letters displayed. It also has a bit of mysterious touch to it, since the viewer can't really tell what it says (maybe love or movie?).
One thing I would like to critique is that I wish the lizard in the second photo had a larger close up, maybe get some really good detail into what the little guy looked like. But it probably would have scurried off if you had gotten any closer than what you already had, so what you got is actually really good.
This assignment was very well done, and I am glad that I got to see it. It looks like you are living in a really nice place right now, so I hope you enjoy yourself and am looking forward to what you will show us during the rest of the semester.
