  1. i love all of these, the choice of black and white is perfect! i shows a different side of the city that most people dont see, they just see everyone out and about with all the pretty buildings but no one really knows what kinda work goes on behind the scenes and you did a great job capturing that! you really did a good job taking the viewer almost thouh a day and how things go and what you would see. overall great job and very interesting, i love it!

  2. Hi Luke,

In this day and age the building of a church is something rarely thought of. Churches in general have a connotation of being ancient, timeless and at the least very old. I think your strongest photo by far is the image you captured of the church frame next to what is promised it will look like. This sort of action and time in motion really heightens this conceptually. Despite its sturdy metallic frame, it is clear from the image this church was designed to also be timeless, and far from modern. It almost appears as though it is designed to look old. which raises the question, is this an original design? or is this a complete reconstruction of what once was? these questions really add interest to the picture and the content. I had to pause at this, because the building of a church is a very special thing. The hope and positive energy being poured into this project really shown through. When you build a church, despite the negative connotations associated with organized religion, someone or a group of people, are intending to help others. Conceptually I think this is one of the best photos you have taken. I fact your first image is so strong and covers so many subjects many of your other pictures do not seem necessary or appear to be repetitious because of how much you captured in that first image. Overall nice work!

  3. Hi Luke! I really enjoy the fact that you chose to make your photos black and white, I think it dramatizes and works well with you series. I think the subject matter was a great choice, it's something that we always pass by in the city but never really stop to consider. I like how you showcased the iron work in the 4th and 6th photos. The crop and angle you chose to shoot from creates interesting shapes and lines for the viewer to look at. I like that you captured workers in motion and the setting in which they work. I think your 7th photo is the strongest and best represents the title of your series. I love the water that's dripping in the background and how you were able to capture him in that exact moment of maneuvering a large saw. I also like your last photo. I think it's a symbolic representation of the working class hero with the American flag and City Hall with Billy Penn as the background. Nice job! I'm sure these workers would really appreciate and like the ode to them through your series!

  4. Hey Luke! I love the monochromatic theme of your images and the industrial urban feel to them. It was all very American! I really like the first photo and how you can see the building being constructed and then an image of what it will look like when completed. You gave us a real inside look at the work and manpower it takes to build something. Really great job!

  5. Hey Luke, I chose black and white this week too, and I really love the theme of your pictures. The order which you assembled them helped narrate a story about the “working class hero” – from starting a building plan, to working on it to the finished product (a process that applies to almost everyone.) My favorite one is the ninth picture with the flag, I really love the contrast of the tree branches against the sky, and the pop of color from the flag makes it a focal point, which creates a sort of symbolism for the whole picture. Overall, I think you did a great job – keep it up!

  6. Hi Luke,

I like how you made something as regular as construction look beautiful. The close ups you give of the construction really give the viewer a great look at the inner works that go into it. The black and white of the photos adds to the beauty of looking at this construction by giving it that extra aesthetic appeal.
You did a great job in completing this weeks assignment. This set of photos creates a narrative that really helps the viewer to appreciate the art that goes into building construction. I'm glad I got to see this set of photos and all of the photos you have shown in this semester.
