Brandi Asselin, Assignment #3

  1. I will admit that I am not 100% sure about depth of field, but here we go. I like the detail of the box of horse shoes with background blurry. It shows how the focus is on the box and nothing else. I also think the landscape photo is amazing, it is really a great pic. The way you changed uo the angle with e sign photo. it gives the same depth of field as the first photo from a different angle, and it changes the photo.

  2. You definitely fulfilled the technical goals of this assignment through the two shallow dof photos and the one large dof as well as your self photograph. I really like the colors in all of these photos and the colors are great! It just depicts such a nice summer day in PA. I can see you took a lot of time picking the right photographs and I think you did a great job.
All of these compositions are very stunning. The first photo is framed so nicely, I like how the brown from the wood cuts across the image and the horse shoes are illustrated so well. The lighting on them and the weeds growing out of the wood is really cool and something most people would not stop to notice. The second image illustrates such a large amount of space and good choice with the large dof to illustrate that space. The clouds are so lovely and the blues from the shadows are really pretty. I really like hope in the last image the brown on the sign pops so much with the white sign. I like your last picture, it's a cool capturing of motion!
These images create a strong visual statement about where you live. It seems very peaceful and remote! I believe its how the colors and composition play together to create this statement! Great job!

  3. Hi Brandi,

These pictures are great. You did a wonderful job in completing the assignment to the fullest. The two shallow dof are really nice, the lighting in the first one and the angle taken in the second beautiful touches.Focus was kept cleanly on the main subjects (the horse shoe box and the sign) and the angles on each draw the eyes to them. The large dof is great as well. I love the large span of the photo and how detailed it all is. I especially love the clouds captured in the picture and how it is pretty much equaled out to the amount of land caught in the picture. Your self portrait is very creative, I like how you were able to capture the seeds being blown away into the picture; it is a really great detail in the photo.
I really can't find anything to critique on this set of photos, it truly is beautiful. You just completed this assignment down to the last detail.
I'm glad I got to see these great photos, and am looking forward to what you will show during the rest of the semester.

  4. Wow, nice work! I really love the first photograph; it caught my attention right away with the colors and the lightening hitting the wood. I like the shallow DOF used here, its subtle yet the leaves in the left hand corner are all very sharp and in focus while the house and tree in the background aren’t.. The second one is also very beautiful, and demonstrates a large DOF. I like the texture of the cloud and how they kind of pop out of the sky and break up the greenness of the landscape. The third one is also another great shallow DOF, that sign looks like it has a character and a history and it makes me want to know more about the location.
