Lauren G. Assignment #2

  1. This dog is adorable, and I can just imagine you calling his or her name and then snapping photos of him or her running towards you! I love all of the colors and the perspective. technically speaking, I believe you accomplished this assignment, you are showing an adorable dog running towards the camera, capturing motion and also showing new relationships between the dog and the playground for children along with how this dog in particular runs!
All of these images are in regards to composition very strong. I love the second one, there is something in the relationship between the dog dropping from the air with the tail up that is so aesthetically pleasing and draws the eyes to the white on the garbage cans. The pinks in the dog's eyes and mouth work with the reds in the toys. I think you captured the essence of this loving dog! I wish the first photo were in focus, but that is just me, because it definitely does depict motion and looks like the second after the registration that someone is calling him or her to the camera.
In regards to intent, all of these images work together to create a strong visual statement about the movement of a dog from one location further away to another closer. The message is created through the movement of the dog closer to the camera, if the dog were going the other way or if the photos were in reverse this would make no sense. I can see you took a lot of time to find the perfection images and that you tried around with a lot of different objects. Overall, great job!

  2. I really enjoy the almost frame by frame approach of the dog running toward the camera. He/she looks like genuinely happy dog! There is also a great contrast between the colorful plastic toys and the gritty urban background. In the first one I agree with the comment above that I would have liked to see the dogs face more in focus, although the slight blur does really make the third photo, the closeup, standout. I love how the second image catches the dogs hind legs in mid air. I think you captured motion here perfectly. I also love that the dog is off centered in the shot as opposed to the first one. It gives the viewer the idea that he is leaping and bounding toward you very playfully. In the last photo I like the closeup and the tongue hanging out of the mouth. Although the background gives each picture such character I would have maybe liked to see the last one a little less cluttered and focused solely on the dog, but that may have been difficult. Overall, great job and keep it up!

  3. Wow, what an adorable dog! I think the third frame is your strongest, because of the composition of the and size of the dog in context with the rest of the frame. It makes it appear larger than life, and gives it this exciting, playful feel to the whole photograph. The background toys and playground are also very bright and only add a high-spirted-ness to the photo. I agree with the others, in that I wish the photos could be more in focus, but I think all three capture movement and motion, in a very simple yet exciting way.

  4. I love how you chose to capture your dog, which I understand is a hard thing to do. I enjoy the framing of all three photos because the dog is in a different position every time. One of the most noticeable things in the three pictures is the focus. The dog appears blurry while the background is crystal clear. If the dog was a little more focused these images would be much more stronger because it highlights the dog's actions. It is clear that you wanted to show the happy, playful personality of your dog and I think you executed it very well. Dogs are tough subjects to be shooting because they are constantly on the move. The second picture is a perfect example of the dog's movements being perfectly captured with minimal blurring due to the motion. The only thing that could have made the second picture even better would be if you pulled back a bit so the front half of the dog wasn't partially cropped out, but regardless it is an amazing picture. Awesome work, I can't wait to hopefully see more photos of your adorable pup!
