Hey Alex, cool perspectives, About time somebody exposed those birds on campus for the food thief's they are haha. Anyway Photo #1 of the woman and the car was a really interesting moment you were able to capture. I think it was a wise choice to take the photo at the level of the people walking, it gives a point of view perspective that we see everyday, but allows us to look deeper into the moment. I think the way you framed the shot captures the fear and danger everyone experiences when crossing the street in Philadelphia. The car in motion as well as the woman make it seem like she is about to be hit by a car (I hope not) or is trying to get out of the cars way. I doubt that she was in any danger, but the picture makes it look like she is directly in front of the car which is pretty cool. From looking at your screenshots the water image I think could have been stronger. I like the images of the individual droplets falling from the bottle more than a steady stream because a droplet falling is something that a viewer can rarely see still but a steady stream can last long enough for the human eye to watch in real time. The droplet is literally stopping the time. The bird picture also seems to follow along those lines as well. The movement of a bird on the ground picking up scraps is not a true privilege to see since the eye can watch them with little problem. Time isn't necessarily stopped in this photo for me and isn't giving a perspective I haven't seen before. I think that if you were to have taken shots of a bird interacting with other birds or in more of a motion it would have been a more spontaneous shot. Overall I think you captured some good shots and completed the assignment.
Hey Alex, first off thank you for your suggestions on my photos. As a beginner I love any constructive advise and you definitely helped me look at the photos I chose in a different way. As for yours, excellent job once again. I really love the almost street-level view of the first photo. It put the image at an almost childlike perspective, beneath the eye level of the woman or the drivers. I also like how there is some red reflecting onto the ground on the right side and that the soles of the woman's shoes were red. This contrasting perfectly with the red temple flags on the left side and really balanced out the image. The reds, and orange of the construction sign really stood out as all other colors, including both cars, were neutral. The white crossing lines also seem to converge toward a point far of into the image really drawing your eye right to the middle of the action. In your second photo I like the transparency and fluidity of the water against a harsh, monochromatic background. It really focused on the motion of the liquid. In your third photo I love that it really focuses in on the bird and (egg roll?) and there is nothing else in the image that may cause any distraction. Those Temple animals are ravenous. I also like that the image blurs a bit as it fades into the background. Excellent work!
I love the perspectives you chose to use in each shot, and how there are multiple displays of motion in each one. I like how even though the subject of the first, with the cars, and the business of broad street, always with lots of motion is a typical shot subject, you managed to capture it in a unique way with the overlapping of the moving elements. They all interact with one another in a really great way. I also love the water shot a lot because of the patterns and movement you see within the water itself. A very cool 'motion nesting' effect throughout the shots. Awesome work, can't wait to see more!
I think all of these images are doing a phenomenal job of capturing motion that we otherwise would often not pay attention or completely miss. The first photo has a ton of movement, between the women and the cars around her. I really enjoy the angle it's shot at, it makes me feel like I am moving with the image. I also like how you were able to get both the movement of man and machinery into one shot, I think it's a neat contrast. The second photo is my favorite, I too tried to capture the fluidity of water. This to me is a great image because it is something that we can't really see with the naked eye that clearly. It's a very pure and clean shot, and I like how it is the total focus of the image. The last image is really cool as well. I like the perspective you shot it and, and I really enjoy the fact that you kept a lot of the background. I think it was necessary to keep that background to show the surroundings and to add to the balance of the photo. You were definitely able to capture motions and movement in times that perhaps otherwise would be overlooked. Awesome!
I really like the variety of these shots; each of them is very different from the last, yet the all make up details of everyday life that we sometimes miss or overlook. The first shot immediately made me wonder where you were standing to capture the shot, because of the white stripes on the street and the position of your camera. I think you were able to successfully capture the movement of Philadelphia, and I really enjoy the depth of the photo, as I can see the buildings in the background are covered in a slight fog when you look closer, which is really cool. The second shot is really great, because it captures such a quick moment in time, but it very clear and focused at the same time (which isn’t the easiest thing to do.) I think the horizontal stripes in the background give the image a lot of texture and make it more interesting than if the background was just white or black. I also the texture in the water itself, the repetition of inside lines makes it aesthetically pleasing and exciting. At first glance, I thought the third image was a bird eating a rose, but upon close inspection I noticed it was some kind of eggroll, or taquito, which changed the attitude and overall essence of the picture for me. It definitely reminded me of North Philadelphia, which I think is cool because of the simple, everyday composition and objects in the shot.
You have some great shots in your three photos, but the third is the one that stands out the most to me. I know that its hard to get photos of wild animals, and you caught a pic of one the hardest to get, a bird. I love that you caught it trying to feed. Whatever that is, is have the birds size. It looks like he is biting off more than he can chew. I also like how in your first pic it seems like the woman is out running the car for that split second. I like how you have caught the Temple T's in the background, because that brings it all home for me. I love Temple University, and that T is such a great symbol. No matter where you go people know that T.
