Hey, I'm Gabby. Senior going on super-senior (lets blame that on the restricted major classes offered abroad.) I'm an advertising major, with a concentration in Copywriting. I used to dabble a bit in photography, but in recent years, my nikon has collected a bit of dust under my bed..I thought this class would encourage me to start shooting more. I have an outdated photo-blog
here. I'm from New York, and moved to Philadelphia for school, so its been great to really just explore everything it has to offer. I really respect and love the music scene in Philly, and the accessibility/availability to see so many of my favorite bands live. When I'm not working, I love biking, reading, taking road trips, and being a dog pervert (lusting over stranger's dogs) at local dog parks.
Hello Gabby, nice to meet you. You should consider getting a dog if you have to feel like a "pervert" to pet other people's haha. Your photo has great resolution and I think you fulfilled the assignment to take a self portrait. You went with the blank background this is me technique which is fine and you decided to look directly into the camera. Your wide eyed gaze into the camera commands attention most definitely. Your hair drapes over your left shoulder so that one shoulder is left uncovered which exposes more of your chest and neck. I think that if you positioned the light at more of an angle way could have gotten a little more shadow for dramatic effect and possibly take up some of that negative space making the image more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI don't know exactly what message your trying to convey in this photo. Your body language isn't any particular way to suggest one way or the other. I am forced into eye contact with you, which isn't bad but I don't know what you want the viewer to see in you. I am left questioning how you feel, at first glance you look sad maybe, than again I see contempt, than looking back at it again I see shock. All very powerful messages from your stare alone but not the photograph as a whole. I do like this picture though it is very in your face and the lack of emotion does force the viewer to draw their own conclusion.
Great photo and nice to meet you. I would be interested if you have taken any photos of New York and Philadelphia years ago these places have changed a great bit.
ReplyDeleteShots such as this become very candid. The camera is at a very close and intimate space and everything in the photo seem natural. Keep up the good work and I will be checking out your blog!
Hey Gabby! Im also an ad major so thats cool. BUt i enjoy your image i like how you focused on your face and kept a very serious look on you face that is still a bit inviting at the same time. I feel like you are looking right at me and thats kinda cool. Cant wait to see more of your work!
ReplyDeleteHi Gabby! I too am an advertising major hitting that super senior status. I think the lighting in your photo is awesome, it seems completely balanced. I also like how you're staring directly into the lens so that it looks like that you follow the viewer's stare from wherever they may be. I too can't wait to see you work!
ReplyDeleteHey Gabby! Your picture is very captivating and beautiful. Similar to the comment above I like that you are staring directly into the lens and it really allows your blue eyes to pop. I also think that the black and white striped shirt was a great chose. With the stark white background it gave the photo some contrast but did not take away the attention from your face. Really great job and I look forward to seeing more of your work!
ReplyDeleteAnother super senior to relate to! Sorry you have to stay another year, but at least you can take this class and have a chance to use your dusty camera once again! I like how your portrait is a very standard self portrait, but it shows so much rawness. It's very up front, and revealing, as we can see the whole face in entirety. It's not overdone, or presented in a flashy way, it just is, and I love that quality. This up-frontness leads me to believe that you are a very up-front person, and that you don't tend to hide in the background. I like your shots though, excited to see more.
