  1. Hi Luke! I too was near the art museum to try and snap some movement photos. I really like that you captured your photos at night, because I feel like then you have to rely even more on light to capture the motion of objects. I'm really drawn to the first photo, it's like a really neat abstract photo. And it makes me wonder how fast you were going and where were you going. I'm assuming the shutter speed was low so that you could capture the movement of the dial which I think is really cool. I also like the perspective of the second photo because you were not only able to capture movement out the passenger window, but the car mirror as well which I missed at first glance. The last photo I like as well, however I would have maybe moved closer to the fountain to really capture the movement of the water. Overall nice job I think you definitely completed the assignment!

  2. I'm loving the night shot theme... very cool. I'm particularly drawn to the first one of the speedometer because of the bright, bold colors and blur of the dial. The speedometer itself says motion, but then the physical evidence in the photograph of the dial moving at a fast pace is the second indicator of motion. I like how you are experimenting with light and motion, and how light can react with the subject to create the motion, or define and accentuate the motion even more, like in the fountain image. The light shining through the water is reinforcing the idea that the water in the fountain is moving. Nice work!

  3. These are so great! I agree with the others, the first photo caught my attention; I think the bright colors of the speedometer and the slow exposure created a great photograph. In coordination with your others, it adds this bit of mystery, leaving me asking – how fast you're going, and where you’ll end up. The second photograph is my favorite, it immediately reminded me of my own summer nights, traveling at night with someone in the passenger seat, with the windows open and blasting some good music. I think you captured the movement of the city street well, but you were also able to stop and capture time, and showcase this precious moment in the car. The car mirror shot is really incredible, and this little detail gives us another hint about your surroundings. I really like the colors in the third shot, and although I wish it was a little more in focus, the movement of the water you captured, with the purple flash work really well together, against a black sky and streetlamps. Because there are no people in the photograph, it forces the viewer to directly concentrate on the fountain, which I feel like is rare, in a spot in the city that is constantly bombarded by people.

  4. Luke,

Very interesting and ambitious your dark compositions. Subject wise, all three of these are really strong. I think your first photo is the most successful and also clear in capturing movement. The chaos and fever of the speed dial going up and down is certainly an image that can be compared and related to a multitude of things - nice work. Compositionally I would loved to see a little more space to the left of the dial, perhaps equal to the little corner you have in the top right. That tight cropping is a bit uncomfortable and I'm not sure if it was intentional. Your second image really brings in your film background and tells a story. Boathouse row at night is quite beautiful and I am happy you were able to catch a fleeting glimpse of it both out the window and in the mirror which I found interesting. The girl also adds a curious twist and I'm not sure what she means in this photo or her expression but maybe it is capturing a fairy tale like moment you had with her echoed by the fairy tale lights of boathouse row. Your last image I think was the least successful but still interesting. I would have likes to seen the fountain centered and the glob of light is distracting from the beautiful movements of water in the fountain. Overall nice work!

  5. Hi Luke,

I have to agree with everyone else, the night theme is very interesting. It really gives a touch of mystery to the photos, especially the second one. The woman's face mostly in shadow, but just enough of her profile showing in the light is beautiful. You did a good job in capturing a moment in time where the woman is distracted, looking out through the front window as you both drive along. The picture of the gauge is good too, the camera capturing it as it moved up then quickly back.
The photo of the fountain is beautiful as well, but I have to agree with Alex that the lights are distracting, though that probably couldn't be helped. I would have liked to have seen a few different angles done also, maybe one closer and looking up. But it still does pretty well the way it already is, capturing the water constantly falling down.
You successfully completed this assignment by capturing these creative moments in you photos. Each one is unique and gives good detail into the subjects of each photo. You did an overall good job and I am looking forward to see what you will show next throughout the semester.
