Hello,
My name is Alex Nazzaro. I am a BFA in graphic and interactive design. I specialize in branding, typography, illustration, web design along with iPad and iPhone design and production. Feel free to browse my website at alexnazzarodesign.com. This past year I completed my design courses under the militant command of Tyler's GAID professors. This past semester was an exceptionally challenging one, but in the end the most successful. I always loved photography as well but never had the time to invest due to graphic design. I look forward to seeing your creative solutions for these assignments. As a graphic designer living in Philadelphia, I embrace the eclectic flare of the urban life-style. However, I am inspired by the seaside pallet of my small town CT upbringing. When not in the studio, I enjoy the simple pleasures of life such as exploring on my bike, hiking, cats, and creating a fine meal from scratch. Please click to enlarge my portrait because it was shot on a white background.
It is nice to meet you Alex. Your introduction was very informational and I too like to explore on my bike and hike, but am more of a dog person. I can tell that you put a lot of effort into this assignment which I believe you fully completed all the requirements for. Technically this photo uses almost all the space of the frame with very little negative space. You are obviously the subject, the image is good quality with very crisp color. Your hands with the beaded bracelet are in the light and in the most focus of the image. I feel like the action is what you are trying to capture, or communicate to the viewer. Your brow wrinkle is another part of this image that is illuminated and in focus. Your arms are angled diagonally and the motion seems to be pulling your arms apart. Your head is down and covered in a harsh shadow as well as the top of your arms and many parts of your shirt. This is what I see technically in the picture and from your screen shot I can tell you did not want much detail other than yourself to explain anything about you.
ReplyDeleteFrom the screenshot and your final image I believe that your wanted to hide your face. I think that your image message is in the absence of detail in the face accept for the brow and the focus on your hands/wrists. It is a strong composition, but I believe the design could have been stronger from the message that I am receiving from the image. The message I receive is tumultuous. The composition of what is illuminated versus shadowed makes me think that the person you are is a mysterious one because of the way you are not showing your face, that you feel confined in some way, but overwhelmed by the way you are pulling your own arm in opposite directions of the frame. It makes me think that this message is about struggle and inner turmoil. Your emotion conveys that you are feeling negative about this or perhaps in pain by the way your wrinkled brow is shown. Your hands and face are the focal point for me. I see your hands first than your face in the background, which is what makes me compare the two together. Although, at the same time I believe this image is about the hands maybe themselves. What they are capable of? You can't stop them from moving?Your a physical person? are some of the questions I asked myself because of the activity and body language of the hands in the image. I hope I did this critique right. A good image overall and well done. I found it very interesting.
I thought your images were really interesting and a real cool take on the assignment i would had never thought to something like this. I feel like your trying to tell us that you are hiding from something of you have a fear and don't want to let people in. In terms of what you told me about yourself in your copy I feel like it doesn't reflect your openness to explore. I loved the images but think it would had been cool to see you be more open.
ReplyDeleteHi Alex! You can definitely tell you are an artist, you clearly have a great eye for lighting and cropping. I think this is such a cool image. I like the angles that your arms make and how it creates unique shapes within the negative space. It's nice to see that you were able to control all the elements in this photograph. I think darkening and hiding your face is intriguing and leaves the viewer wondering what does it look like and why did the photographer leave it out. It appears that is what you were going for in your screen shots because they all share this dark vs. light quality to them. Overall, I think this photograph has a mysterious element to it, due to what is shown and not shown, and I feel that's what makes the best photography - images that make the viewer think or question.
ReplyDeleteHey Alex! Your pictures are extremely impressive, you are very talented! I loved your use of lighting and the shadows and white background. It made the color of your shirt and the bracelets really pop. It was also interesting that you opted not to expose your face in any of the photos, which was completely opposite of what I did. It was definitely a different take on the assignment and it worked out great. I was able to get a sense of your unique personality and creativeness. I am excited to see your work throughout the rest of the semester!
ReplyDeleteHello fellow designer! Thanks for the comments and pep talk about senior year design. I'm glad to see people like yourself come out of the program alive and well; gives me hope! Your website is very cool.
ReplyDeleteI love your exploration of light and shadows in your photo set, and how your face is in shadow in most, if not all of the images. To me it implies a sense of mystery or withholding of information or something that the viewer doesn't know or can't see. The focus on your bracelets and hands is really intriguing to me as well. I feel like you are trying to portray a certain view of yourself through the prominace of these decorations, that you're a creative person, unique, and colorful. You place emphasis on your hands and the different forms they can make, which makes sense because as designers, our hands are crucial in the process to say the least. Also, the minimal background information allows me to focus on the figure in the foreground placing greatest importance on you. I love a nice, clean background because it allows the eye to focus on the content easily.
